2020 Future Generations Golf Tournament honoring Rev. Andy Anderson & The Crown Park First Tee Program
The 8
thannual First Tee of Coastal Carolinas Future Generations Tournament was held at the Caledonia Golf & Fish Club on July 28
th. The 2020 event was the sixth FGT supported by Caledonia Golf & Fish club and the eighth with Revels Turf & Tractor as the lead sponsor. Many thanks to Caledonia and Revels for their incredible support of our youth!
As always, the FGT features one First Tee youth with each threesome of sponsors, the big reason we have played to a full field every year. 2020 was no exception, with 28 teams and 28 First Tee youth teeing it up for fun and prizes.
Before the round Charlie Rymer addressed the players, also for the eighth year, with a passionate talk about his recent winning battle with the coronavirus. Reverend Andy followed with an equally passionate ten-year history of the First Tee program at Crown Park, which has helped to “change the pipeline from jail to college” for many of the youth members of the Fathers Overflow and Cedar Branch churches in Loris. Crown Park was represented by five youth who are all competing on the Loris High School Team: Tavian Simmons, Jada and Jalah Hemingway, J’Mya Jackson and N’Terriah Hemingway. For his group blessing, Rev asked that we not bow our heads, but keep our heads up to view the miracle of this diverse group of adults and kids coming together for the day.
After a great start, however, the rains came in torrents and we had to abandon the game after several holes. The heavy rain prompted Jada Hemingway to turn to her teammate Pattie Paul and say, “Perhaps we should have bowed our heads.” Despite the rude interruption by Mother Nature, the support of the field for our programs is awesome and we sincerely appreciate their helping us deliver golf and the Nine Core Values™to our youth.
